Drawing & Painting Solutions
For beginning and returning artists who seek to strengthen basic understanding of drawing and painting practices, this course offers three sessions on drawing challenges: value studies, sighting and measuring for placement and perspective and negative space/composition and three sessions on special issues in painting: drawing with a paintbrush, value painting and basic construction of painting stretchers with canvas. Fun guided exercises and examples provided, with printed hand-outs. Discussion encouraged and geared towards providing individual artists the tools needed to enhance and clarify personal goals. Materials list available upon registration. Limited to 12 students.

Medium Vine Charcoal & Compressed Charcoal
Paper suggested: Strathmore 400 series 18" x 24" drawing pad, 80 lb. (or equivalent)
Pencil
Eraser: white plastic eraser
Acrylic paints: Red, Blue, Yellow, and White
Acrylic white synthetic Brushes, Medium size, Round or Flat
Water container, apron, paper towels, styrofoam plate for palette
Materials list for stretcher bars will be distributed in class

Cost: $135 (6 sessions)
Instructor: Cynthia Miller, M.F.A. completed her undergraduate work in fine arts at the San Francisco Art Institute and her graduate work at the University of Arizona. Her innovative mixed media work can be seen at the Tucson International Airport and the Tucson Museum of Art. Her illustrations appear in Southwest Kitchen Garden by Kim Nelson, published by Rio Nuevo Press.
