THE
LEARNING CURVE Winter/Spring 2010 VISUAL ART & WRITING WORKSHOPS
Travel Photography in a Digital World
Travel photography is more than simply taking a camera along on your next vacation. Improve the quality of the pictures you take when you travel by learning simple compositional techniques such as “framing devices”, “the rule of thirds”, “scale and context”, compressing space” and much more. Make your photographs more interesting to look at! Learn to organize around a theme such as “city at night”, “ small town character”, “everyday life”, “exotic images”, “classic locations” etc. Create story lines and photo essays like an editor. Understand lighting (backlighting, diffuse, “magic hour”) and how to use it effectively. Find out about the “decisive moment” and how to capture it. Come back from your next trip with a “body of work” instead of a pile of snap shots!
