Writing a Book
From Idea to Manuscript
Everyone wants to write a book, it seems. But who, given the demands of daily life, can find the time to do so? In this three-session course, instructor Gregory McNamee - the author of 26 books, and a very busy person himself – will offer techniques for planning and writing a nonfiction book while still meeting the demands of work and home. We’ll begin with the assumption that you have only a little time available for writing each day, and we’ll discuss ways for making the most of that time. We’ll also produce a working proposal that can be circulated to publishers and agents. Along the way, we’ll cover such essentials as generating and testing ideas for intellectual and commercial value; conducting research; managing your time; mastering techniques for writing and revising your work; and understanding the nature of book publishing and the marketplace of reading. (Limited to 10 students.)
