Stories from the Night Sky
From the planets to the constellations, the night sky is full of stories. Join Margaret Savage for a three session class that will illuminate your view of the stars. Learn about the opposition of the church to the study of astronomy and the controversy surrounding the heliocentric viewpoint espoused by Copernicus (1473–1543), a mathematician and astronomer who proposed that the sun was stationary in the center of the universe and the earth revolved around it. We’ll discuss Jupiter, Venus, Mars, Cassiopeia, the Pleiades, Atlas and more as we review the mythology associated with their names and the human qualities that inspired their origins..
When: Thursdays, Mar 29 – Apr 12, 10:00am-noon
Where: St. Philip’s Plaza (See locations page for details)
Cost: $65 (3 sessions)
