Through an examination on their works of art we will seek to understand the ebullience of Rubens and the introspection of Rembrandt. We will examine not only what it meant to them and those around them, but also how their works can still be so instructive and powerful today.

Week 3: Rembrandt as the Dutch Rubens: The Triumph of Success, The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Tulp — or Pride Goeth Before a Fall.

Week 4: Absolute Artistic Triumph and Dramatic Personal Failure — Rembrandt and the Complete Inability to Manage a Career. “The Night Watch” and after.

Week 5: Rubens and Rembrandt, a comparison in contrasts, but a synthesis of truth. The psychology of faith and the power of visual expressions — denial and acceptance as found in the Return of the Prodigal Son.
