Mozart’s Menu: Musical Genius and Culinary Passion
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart lived in a very interesting time and place. It is widely recognized that Vienna in the second half of the eighteenth century was a hotbed of musical creativity. What is less well-known is that Vienna was also a locus of culinary creativity. In correspondence from the time, and in a few musical works as well, there are interesting hints about the great musician’s tastes in wine and food. In Don Giovanni, still today one of the most famous operas of the 18th century, the composer highlights his protagonist’s passion for food. It is a series of lunches and dinners, feasts and banquets, with rich and sumptuous cuisine. Join Maestro Gomez for a new look at this musical genius.
