The Saga of the American Musical Theatre
In 2020, for the first time in the history of the Great White Way, Broadway went dark and the theatres closed. There is a legend that every performer leaves a bit of themselves on those magical stages. As the lights of Broadway went out, the spirits of all the performers who sang and danced on those boards, must have wept in the silence. As Broadway comes back to life and the theatres re-open, it’s a perfect time to celebrate America’s great gift to world: Musical Theatre! Another Openin’ Another Show! will explore the history of the American Musical Theatre and trace the evolution of this unique American form of lyric theatre. From The Black Crook to Hamilton, we’ll chart the creation of what is now the world’s most produced form of theatre. We’ll toast the tunesmiths, the poets, and the stars of Broadway whose collective genius created the American Musical Theatre. Join me as we journey from Musical Comedy to Musical Theatre to Pop Opera to Hip-Hop and Rap! From Cohan to Gershwin to Miranda, you’ll be in “The Room Where It Happened!”
