Instructor: Cynthia Meier, Ph.D., is the Managing and Associate Artistic Director of the Rogue Theatre.
Galileo by Bertolt Brecht is described as one of the greatest plays of the 20th century. It is a re-telling of the discoveries, conflicts with religious figures, and ultimate recanting by the great 17th century Italian astronomer and philosopher, Galileo Galilei. Brecht uses the story of Galileo to advance his own ideas about Marxist philosophy. Cynthia Meier (who is directing the play at The Rogue Theatre) will discuss the historical figure of Galileo, the use of his story by playwright Bertolt Brecht, and reflect on the challenges and joys of producing the play.
