Session 2 – Tchaikovsky’s Treasures – Musical reflections of an adventurous life.
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky was the first Russian composer whose music would make a lasting impression internationally and also one of the most widely traveled composers of his time. It was during his third visit to Rome during the winter of 1879–80 that he was inspired to compose his Capriccio Italien during “the height of carnival.” His musical legacy includes many well-known classical works including the 1812 Overture and three ballets – Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, and The Nutcracker.
