Bella Vivante, Professor Emerita of Classics, University of Arizona, especially enjoys teaching adult education courses for the high level of interest and experience participants bring to the classroom. Her research focuses on Homer, ancient Greek drama, ancient women’s ritual and cultural roles, and currently on the figure of Helen in ancient Greek and modern poetry and film. Her career-long research and many publications on ancient women’s roles well prepare her for the 2014 course. These include: “Helen in 20th c. Films”; Daughters of Gaia: Women in the Ancient Mediterranean; as editor, Women’s Roles in Ancient Civilizations; and a translation of Euripides’ Helen in Women on the Edge: Four Plays by Euripides. Bella enhances her academic expertise with travel to Greece and Turkey where she regularly leads adult and college study tours.
