The French Connection
France has given world literature some of its greatest writers. We will begin the course with “Chanson de Roland” of the Medieval period and move through the centuries discussing the major movements in French literature, the various genres, changes in character development, style, and themes. We will meet Villon, Moliere, Voltaire, Rousseau, Balzac, Chateaubriand, Dumas, George Sand, Zola, Stendhal, Marcel Proust, Andre Gide, Paul Valery, Stephen Mallarme, and Paul Verlaine. Greater emphasis will be placed on Baudelaire, Flaubert, Hugo, de Maupassant, Colette, Sartre, and Camus. Join Dr. Bill Fry for an 8-week arm-chair visit in France with these talented authors.
