Caves and rock shelters preserve some of the most spectacular and important archaeological discoveries. Chauvet-Pont-d’Arc (~30,000 years ago) and Lascaux Cave (~17,000 years old) preserve some of the earliest, and perhaps, most spectacular cave paintings ever discovered.  Shanidar Cave provides a window into a 65,000-year-old Neanderthal burial, complete with flowers and evidence of healed injuries, suggesting a more complex socialization and culture than previously suspected.  Meadowcroft Rock shelter remains a pivotal archaeological site in the debate about the first Americans. Embark on an exploration of human prehistory and consider how humans have interacted with these deep, dark places for millions of years.
