Consider how thankfulness and gratitude inhabit poems, using classic to contemporary examples, including work from Gerald Manly Hopkins, W.S. Merwin, Joy Harjo, Lucille Clifton and more. We’ll also explore how poets have negotiated the complexities of loss, grief and injustice to offer what Nobel Laureate Wislawa Szymborska once advised all young poets should possess: “an abiding conviction that the world deserves a) to keep existing and b) better luck than it has had thus far.”
