Mozart’s Influence on Romantic Composers
Mozart’s last piano concertos and symphonies profoundly affected the first generation of Romantic composers. The intensity of emotional expression, greater dynamic contrasts along with the supreme craftsmanship exercised lasting influence on several generations of composers. Hear piano sonatas and concertos by Mozart as well as piano masterworks by Schubert, Mendelssohn and Chopin. Examine chromatic progressions in Mozart’s works and trace the evolution of this technique in Chopin’s music; hear the supreme reign of melody in both Mozart and Schubert and learn about Mozart’s and Mendelssohn’s early music development. You’ll also learn about the evolution of the piano construction from its conception to the modern form in this delightful combination of lecture plus virtuoso piano performance designed for music afficionados of all levels.
